New broke on Thursday afternoon that Trevor Lawrence had agreed to a contract extention with the Jacksonville Jaguars.

Per Adam Schefter of ESPN, Lawrence’s extention is worth $275 million dollars over the course of 5 seasons. $200 million of that contract is guarenteed and $142 million is at signing. That means that the day the Jaguars’ QB signs the contract, the $142,000,000 will enter his bank account.

The Landscape of QB Contracts

Quarterback is the hardest position to play in the NFL and franchise caliber QBs earn a tremendous amount of money.

Lawrence’s deal moves him up the ranks of QB contracts, tying him with Joe Burrow of the Cincinnati Bengals at $55 million AAV.

He is now paid more than Jared Goff, Justin Herbert, 2x MVP Lamar Jackson, and Jalen Hurts, all of whom have signed contract extensions over the last year. Lawrence is 1-1 in playoff games and after an encouraging 2022-23 season, he and Jacksonville collapsed at the end of 2023-24.

In his three season in the National Football League, T-Law has thrown 58 touchdowns to 39 interceptions. He has a career record of 20-30, although most people ignore his rookie season with Urban Meyer.

In a division that is seemingly favored to the Houston Texans, Trevor now has to live up to his contract extention. Making the playoffs this season in a loaded AFC is no easy task and failure to do so could be the end of the line for Head Coach Doug Pederson.

Trevor Lawrence is a good QB, but should not be making top billing at the position. The resume needs to start filling up for Jacksonville’s young QB and taking a step forward in 2024-25 has become a necessity.
