For years, the Baltimore Ravens have been looked upon as a stable and successful organization. Led by head coach John Harbaugh for many seasons, the Ravens have been one of the best teams in the National Football League.
With Harbaugh’s departure early in the NFL off-season, a new era of Ravens football was set to begin. New head coach Jessie Minter, the former Los Angeles Chargers defensive coordinator, took the opening.
Now, just hours into the start of the NFL’s legal tampering period, the Ravens have fractured their goodwill and reputation around the league.
Maxx Crosby, former Raven.
On Monday, news broke that the Las Vegas Raiders had agreed to a trade with the Ravens for EDGE rusher Maxx Crosby. One of the best pass rushers in the league today, Crosby was expected to be moved this offseason.
As a part of their rebuild, the Raiders were thrilled to be receiving a first-round pick in both 2026 and 2027 from Baltimore.
However, late on Tuesday evening, the Ravens rescinded the trade, an action that could have occurred due to a reported “failed physical” on Crosby’s part.
This move has sent shockwaves across the NFL.
For Baltimore, there is no harm no foul. They exercised their option to prevent the deal, despite agreeing a day prior. This does however significantly hamper the Raiders.
Trouble in Sin City
Las Vegas had agreed to contract with several players after the trade of Crosby was completed. Thanks to their newfound cap space, they had plenty of space to add new talent.
Now, with Crosby back on their team, their cap situation is complicated. They can find a new partner for their best defensive player, which would resolve the cap issue. However, all leverage for the Raiders in a deal has been lost.
